Not a newspapery guy anymore, and any haven't been for columnists(L.A. Times not a fave for that) for some time. Magazines, though.
I like Lewis Lapham, and The Atlantic and Harpers frequently have steady contributions coming in from good writers, like Christopher Hitchens. On the last page of The Atlantic, I think it is, there's a column about odd words and word usage I like, but I don't remember the author's name.
