Auto-running the timebank provides disconnect protection.
And some plain stupidity protection. I have more than once experienced the horror of seeing a lock hand folded on the turn with half of my chips in a monster pot, because I'd spent too much time figuring out how to get the rest in - forgetting my time bank was gone ...
