I've just started playing a Halo game for the first time really (also my first console FPS) but it seems like being behind someone is a much bigger advantage than it is in any other FPS. I just can't turn around quickly and maintain speed. Maybe I just suck with the controller but it seems like everyone has this problem, anyone have any tips? Or am I just going to have to suck it up?
Also I really enjoy the game but the map selection and design is really really weak. They need to get map packs out asap or I'm just going to stop playing. I've gotten like 100 deathmatch games in and I"m pretty much sick of every small/medium sized map.

Nothing you can really do. 9 out of 10 times if someone gets the jump on you from behind you are are going to die.
