Default Re: what is the 3rd tiebreaker for playoff seeding in MLB?

So if my math is correct, then Cleveland basically has the tiebreakers wrapped up. Cleveland is 46-26 in the AL Central which is a .639 winning % and has 3 games left vs. Kansas City. The Angels are 29-20 in the AL West which is a .592 winning % and has 8 games left vs. Seattle, Texas, and Oakland. The Angels would need Cleveland to lose all 3 games against Kansas City and they would need to go at least 6-2 in their remaining 8 games to finish with a higher %. Also, Cleveland is 82-53 vs. the AL and LA is 77-59 vs. the AL. Tiebreakers with Boston don't matter as described above because if either Cleveland or LA tie with Boston then that team would play the Yankees since Boston cannot.

Cleveland has 4 games left with Seattle so it's very possible that L.A. could overtake them in overall record. Also, the team with the best record in the AL this year gets to choose whether they play their series in 7 or 8 days which effects pitching roations so there's an extra incentive to finish 1st.
