In the first hand he puts in 500 BBs (500!) with a weak overpair and its the best hand and his opponent has two outs and your analysis is "he couldn't have been cheating because he would have waited until the river". This is a 1k buyin tournament by the way. 500 BB's with tens there. 500.
In the second hand there is a flush draw available so a diamond on the river may kill his action, and he probably assumed the guy with KQ couldn't get away from it on the turn, so there was no danger in springing the trap there. This is ignoring the flop action where he just calls with the nuts knowing the other nuts are likely to raise it and he can keep KQ trapped in between.
