That's what I did, and that's why I was ready to go for a 4/3/2/1 structure.

That was the first place I looked too when I was in a position to pick my chip distribution.
That site really doesn't explain why 4/3/2/1 is best other than what I mentioned above that it practically guarantees you won't have to make change at the lowest denoms.
I was kinda nervous when I purchased by 3/4/2/1 variation for flexibility in game size. It's not optimal for 11-16 players, but quite manageable.
I haven't regretted it one bit, in fact I'm more than pleased with my distribution. We always use all the Reds and Greens, so I feel that I'm getting maximum value out of my chips.
