Assuming your reads are correct, in this spot in a live game the button cold-caller has a king almost 100% of the time. You played the hand the only way you could play it.
As far as your best friend is concerned, if the turn had been any other card he could have safely check-folded. As it was, he must know the very best case scenario for him on the turn is a chop, so there is absolutely no value in betting. He should probably check-fold turn if he has a read and is confident in it. If that isn't the case, he could crying call down and hope the other player is nice/tricky enough to miss a bet somewhere.
