Rather than just blowing up the pictures like a poster you could alternatively try to rasterbate your pictures to give the room a unique feel. Rasterbator is a cool proram that blows up your image by converting it into a multi-page pdf file to print out.
There was a thread on here about a year ago and I gave it a shot with some pictures of mine for my college apt. If interested I would really try to find that thread because it had some great suggestions etc.
