Value betting this river is mandatory. I expect to get looked up in spots like this with tons of crap. OP played the hand well.

What is your plan if check-raised? Call? People love to play A-trash-suited. Any action on this river is trouble.

I think betting on the turn in case villain was drawing, and checking behind on the river in case he's being cagy is better than check behind on the turn and betting the river.

Checking the turn gets us a call on the river from worse hands and often times induces a bluff on the river from villain. Pot control etc, turn check is good.

If being afraid of getting raised is preventing you from value betting in these spots, you're giving up a ton of value on your hands.

This isn't even close to being a thin value bet. I'll value bet 2nd pair no kicker on the river If I know that villain will call with worse. But here its a no brainer.
