Default Sporting News simulating 1986 MLB season

Someone pointed this out to me on another message board and I thought it was pretty neat-o. Using the Strat-O-Matic Baseball online engine, The Sporting News is re-creating the 1986 MLB season. They are replaying it one day at a time and reporting on it like it's a real season.

Among the managers of the teams are Curt Shilling (Boston), Doug Glanville (Phillies), and Gary Dell'Abate (NY Mets).

I thought today's lead story was pretty funny:

"25-year-old rightfielder Rob Deer went berserk (in the good way) Thursday night, going 4-for-5, blasting 3 homers and driving in 7 runs, as the Brewers routed the Rangers 10-2. Milwaukee ace Teddy Higuera went the distance, whiffing 12 and walking none.

Deer said the only blemish of his otherwise perfect day was the single he hit in the 7th. When asked why, he replied, "That's not one of the Three True Outcomes." No one knew what he was talking about."

Don't know why they chose 1986 to replay, but it's still cool.
