Re: most emotionally devasting moment in film
Excellent topic. Two jump right out at me.
1) the last half hour or so of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotted Mind" makes me sob uncontrollably. Part of it is sorta personal because the female lead reminds me of an ex-girlfriend who I was madly in love with, but the relationship was too unstable to survive. But mostly I love it because it really forces me to think in very broad terms about the nature of regret, memory, and choices made. And that kind of stuff slays me every time.
2) The scene from "The Ice Storm" where Kevin Klein finds Elijah Wood's body. He carries him back to his parent's house and the kid's dad breaks down over the body of his dead son. When the film came out, my buddy called it "the feel bad movie of the year", and he was 100% right on. You have to be made of stone to not lose it there.
