I dunno but I have used my Canadian atm card to access my checking account to withdraw local currency at any atm thruout the US and Mexico...I'm sure this would work in Australia as well. My withdrawl limit I had set to $1500 max/day but it can be set at your preference.
My brother in law prepays his VISA before he leaves on any trip and gets cash that way at any atm...it recently worked on his recent trip to Paris.
