I don't think it's much of a technical accomplishment actually; I probably overstated that if I said it earlier in the thread. I think its power comes from the originality of the songwriting -- how the instruments blend together (arrangement + songwriting + production I guess) and how the lyrics are able to tell a story that makes the melodies feel... justified I guess.
It's hard to write about music well. I guess I just think that every time you go back to this record it feels alive, and a year and a half later it is still easily the best album of 2006. Love it.
