Because the BCS could quite conceivably place 2 loss Mizzou below 1 loss KU...even if it was just basically OU>Mizzou>KU.

You may be correct. It would have to be pretty unprecendented to be #1 and playing for a major conference championship on the last day of the season and out of the BCS Bowl scenario the next day.
