Default Re: The last big fight De La Hoya - Mayweather

Seeing FM smiling while going into a clinch you just wanted to yell, 'How about throwing a punch some time soon!'

Because to do that and turn the fight into a slugfest would have favored De la Hoya, and turned the fight away from Mayweather's strengths. Floyd is too smart a fighter to do that

That was a sarcastic statement.

I thought FM's plan was good. Basically, his plan was to just rope-a-dope him. Obviously no way he could go toe to toe. However, he could've mixed it up a bit more. If he's that fast, he could've gotten in and out. The other thing is, the rope-a-dope isn't quite as effective in shorter fights(12 rounds instead of 15) or lighter weights. You really can't afford to give away that many rounds and expect to win it easily.

But it's a joke when you go around telling everyone you're going to knock him out. Him smiling is like laughing at everyone who paid to see that fight who might expect more than 20 punches thrown in a round by a guy that's not in a heavier weight class. Result? Crowd booing him. Which, regardless of him saying he'll retire, might affect future earnings from the gate.
