On a slightly different tangent, this need to create alternate nicks so that one's milestone posts are left intact is kinda lame. Just do what I do and don't make them.

7k out of the way. We will now return you to your normal buzzcast.

I'm curious. Why make a gimmick account, and give it away?

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to make necessary a means of bonding that includes symbolic and meaningful events. These are substantive to communication, and are key pieces of information that definine the group. Such memes in the 2p2 community include modes of communication (e.g. ___aments), titles (e.g. enough is enough), and milestone posts (e.g. 6-max stats). These memes are nearly meaningless outside of such a community. Because #posts = round number, or a quantity which prompts UBB Code to change the stock title is considered meaningful, we call this a milestone. On the way to the rounded number, we may make a random post such as "LOL" or "bet the flop" or perhaps a more meaningful post. Regardless, the milestone is a collective decision of the group that makes the meme what it is. A gimmick account is another meme, but there is not one philosophy of the gimmick. Some gimmicks are obviously anonymous accounts, but not all. Eskimo5ickness has a known gimmick account, and so does DavidC. Perhaps it is a fun variation, and provides an alternative than the day-to-day routine of posting under the legitimate account.

If any poster were to count up all posts on all of their accounts, only those that are meaningful posts, and then considers the next “big round number” post to be a milestone in the account of their choice, then perhaps that is a meaningful milestone. That post will most likely not be a round-number or a UBB Code-determined title. This is obviously pointless. All this amounts to post-count is meaningless. So the irony is that while I requested the self-ban at 6999, I wanted to keep posting, thus the gimmick. I personally would like to make a meaningful post, and I want the number to be #7K. So in the interim, I post using a gimmick. Not a hard decision, and not pointless either.

But why does it matter? Once you put in post 7000+, no one is gonna know what your 7000th post was.

Does it make any diff if it is post 7000 or 7015?

Gimmicks are good for many reasons, hell I have one (no one knows it!), but I don't see the need here.
