btw, joker...

if you had to give an answer: in which form of art are you more of a hipster: music or movies?

[/ QUOTE ]

Man... that's tough.

I really like to champion non-hipster stuff in both categories. Maybe it's overcompensation for having tastes that really align with a lot of hipsters, but I really think that a lot of kids from my generation are shunning mainstream stuff just because it's not cool to like it.

On OOT alone I have written a long defense of Tom Cruise as one of our best working actors (very non-hipster), and I've defended blink-182 as a truly great band (ditto).

I've written raves about Love, Actually and American Wedding. I've admitted to owning several albums by Sir Mix-a-Lot, and I also really like the new Dixie Chicks single that rips on the pro-Bush red-staters (hipster attitude from a non-hipster band).

In the last 2 years, my top 10 movies lists have included films by Chan-wook Park, Terrence Malick, Michael Showalter, Michel Gondry, Lars von Trier, and Noah Baumbach (super hipster), but they have also included the likes of Brokeback Mountain, King Kong, Million Dollar Baby, and Munich.

My favorite albums of recent years definitely reek of hipsterism: New Pornographers, Go! Team, Death Cab, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah... but they also include Rob Dickinson, Green Day, and The Killers (the Killers are a hipster's favorite rock band to bash -- because they try to be hip but are actually mainstream as hell).

So I dunno... I think I'm the worst person to answer that question.

Go to my website (privatejoker.org) and you tell me. I just like what I like. I don't care if it's as mainstream as "Mission: Impossible" (a masterpiece by any definition -- film geek or idiot) or as gag-inducingly indie as Rilo Kiley. If I think it's great, I'll say it's great.

EDIT: I guess the answer to your question is Music, but it's very close. I'm more passionate about film, since it's what I "know" the best, so my tastes have gone beyond the hipster phase.

EDIT #2: I really come off as a pretentious c0cksucker in this post.
