I was going to suggest:
Pick a very untraveled, preferably unmarked dirt road in Death Valley. Drive to the end (bring your 4WD). Hike about 30 minutes in some random direction into the hills/mountains off of any trail. Read. Don't forget your personal ELT.
But driving four hours and hiking an hour to read for a couple hours may be a bit much. Dunno why, but I get a certain kick out of knowing I'm the only human in a 10 mile radius.
