There's a lot of really stupid advice in this thread. A close friend of mine lost a relative thanks to some f***ing idiot that thought he was fine drinking and driving.
Any obligation you have is as much to everyone else as it is to your friend. Get him a DUI and see if that helps clear his mind up a bit.
