Doubles/splits returned after the hand if dealer has a BJ though. They have some the readers on tables now.

If the doubles/splits are returned when the dealer has a blackjack, then it is mathematically equivalent to peek; there is no change to the house edge. In Europe, under no-peek, the house keeps doubles/splits when the dealer has blackjack, which is the reason the house edge goes up.

If you don't have blackjack detectors, the reason to use South Point's procedure (rather than the one at the San Remo, which is faster) is that the dealer gets an opportunity to collude with the players if (s)he knows specifically what the hole card is.

There's no way any sane person would do this. It's just not worth getting arrested for cheating. Some morons I'm sure have tried it. And I know they keep a close watch on the dealers in houses like this. The Orleans was notoriously bad for sweating the dealers and money till Boyd took over, and it's now all 6:5 bj and carnival games.
