For your edification, please note the "especially British" clause at http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/levelled . As you may know, I am especially British.

Or, please note the "US" aside at http://www.askoxford.com/concise_oed/level?view=uk .

The word "leveled" would be pronounced as the meaningless "lev-eeld" by an Englishman. (Perhaps that is how an American would pronounce it? Obviously, I have never heard an American speaking in real life.)

The word "levelled" would be pronounced, correctly, by an Englishman as "levelled".
