Guesses: boat, quads or a bluff. The pot only has $8.35 and
you have to call off about $26 so your theoretical calling
frequency is only about 24%, so even if you checked all your
hands that weren't boats and AAA, this is in that range. If
you checked EVERY HAND, including any boat or quads, you
can check and fold, but in practice, it's likely you would
bet most of your improved hands. Also, if you are using
judgment, do you think you have more than about a 43%
chance of having the best hand? If so, calling is in order.

One factor is that you don't have a king or an ace, so that
it is possible that your opponent could just have AAA. The
psychological factor is that this "looks like a big bluff";
unfortunately, the biggest size bet is sometimes the best
bet to make if an opponent is willing to pay off.

Making a stand by calling isn't a mistake, as it looks like
you're a calling station and other opponents, if they are
observant, will think that you'll be willing to pay off big
bets in the future. If you had KKK instead, laying down
could be a mistake, and it's clearly within the range of
hands you need to strongly consider calling with, especially
against an opponent that is capable of bluffing.
