Default Re: little help with min betting?

The minimum raise needs to equal the previous bet or raise. Or to phrase it another way if you want to raise the minimum, your bet is equal to calling the amount the previous bettor bet and then either 1.) equal his bet again, (if no raise) or 2.) match his raise amount

Examples:

A. BB = 100. Player A bets 200 (a raise of 100). If Player B wants to raise his minimum bet will be 300. The call of players A's 200 plus the raise of 100 (equal to the previous raise)See #2 above.

B. BB = 100, UTG calls. If player A wants to raise his minimum bet will be 200. UTG's bet of 100 plus a raise of $100. See #1 above

C. BB = 100. Player A bets 200. Player B makes it 350(raising player A by 150) Now if player C wants to raise his minimum bet is 500. He needs to equal the previous bet (350) and then add in the raise (150)

I find if you understand this it makes it very easy to keep track of the minimum raise required while at the table. If Player C above asked you what his minimum amount to raise was you can easily work it out. Player A bet 200, B bet 350. Thats a 150 raise added to the 350 bet makes it 500 minimum.

I've also heard of some home games where they rule the minimum riase is simply twice the previous bet. It's not entirely accurate but it makes it simple.

Good Luck
