I saw this on SNL last week and thought it was funny, but didn't know the song was a specific reference to anything until this thread.
The weird thing is I watched The OC religiously back then, but I remember that for some reason the sound went screwy on my DVR recording during the last 15 minutes of the second season finale, so I had watch this scene with the subtitles on and was thus unaware of the music cue here.
