Hand 1, if you're playing short, just push here over his raise. Only reason to play short is to get a feel for 3bets, peoples playing styles, aggression, etc at any new level. Don't do it much. Short stacking can be profitable, but we play at 50NL for learning something and that can only be done by playing post flop poker. Shortstacking is only really profitable at higher stakes anyway.

Hand 2, bet the flop. You're going to get more action if anyone has anything, and that pays off a lot better than any c/r -- where now they're sure you have a monster. If you're raised, and flop is as dry as this one, you can call and c/r the turn -- or push (depends on villain's range, pf limped pots can be anything); pushing/3betting is better in raised pots that are two-tone or straightening out.
