Player A bets, Player B calls, Player C (B's friend) raises knowing that A will likely fold and knowing B will check it to the river if he does call. The agreement to softplay makes it a lot easier for C to raise in this situation even if B and C made no other prior agreements to collude.

Agreeing to softplay friends gives a group of friends an advantage over others at the table. This is why I call it an angle shoot.
