Default Re: Upgrade bathroom to marble

I was in the stone business for about 7 years, mostly sales but I've helped on more than a few installs. I generally argee with most of the above comments. I would stay away from marble for the bathroom because it is very soft. Many household products will etch the finish of polished marble (almost any bathroom cleaner). Marble is also quite brittle especially in the lighter colors with lots of veining. A general rule of thumb is the darker the stone the harder it is.

Traverine with a tumbled (rough) finish works much better in bathrooms. I have used it in several of my flip houses and gotten great results. Use a typical wet tile saw with a stone blade and you will have no trouble cutting it.
