Other than two things I agree with your analysis. The first is that 78 flopped the nut straight. The second is that I would definitely not call a PSB on a variety of rivers. If you're checking turn you need to re-evaluate the board on the river because your turn check allows his holdings a chance to catch up (say he has a straight draw or pair + 1 card straight draw, etc.) Most people won't pot every river just because you checked behind.
