The dealer did have a chance to save her... a better dealer would have saved her. But she said "Call" then mucked, and dealer by reaction swept in her cards.

A player doesn't actually muck their hand by putting the cards in the muck pile in an irretrievable way. They flip them to the dealer who should have heard the call and at the very least stopped the action right there to get a ruling. It's not like she muttered it under her breath - the rest of the table clearly heard her so it's not beyond a reasonable expectation that the dealer should have heard her too. The fact that she called outweighs anything else unless there was significant action after she tossed her cards and even then the floor has the power to make a ruling.

I think she got shafted and it's one of my personal pet peeves about how poker rooms are run - that they make or don't make rulings in a seemingly arbitrary way all the time when they have no money vested on the outcome. It's like their room license gives them the right to steal a players' money. No one knows why some decisions are made and if those decisions are influenced by personalities and outright kickbacks in the way of high tips. Note that casino games against the house like blackjack, etc, are closely monitored but multiple floor personnel and multiple cameras. The only reason for that is because the house is playing with their own money.

I guess this is one of the reasons why I have turned more and more to home games in the past year or so. The hosts typically have something on the line if the rulings aren't made right. No one will come back. It has kind of surprised me how many large private tourneys and multi table cash games there are in LA.
