if they do this, they're probably the best team in baseball for the next 3 years. so yes they give up long term value, but the short and medium term value is huge.
they don't need both Coco and Jacoby, and Lowrie projects more as a 2b anyways, where he's blocked for a loong time by Pedroia. so the immediate and medium MLB affect is losing Lester (who would be our #5 mb next year) and Masterson (who knows) for Johan.
