However I do know that it needs to be drank within a 1/2 hr of the lifting. Is there anyway to achieve this without making running essentially impossible due to cramps and such?

maybe drink just a very little bit and then run?
If that's still uncomfortable I say just skip the shake and drink it after. It's not THAT important.
