I oftentimes have to ask someone to repeat themselves, or simply say "what?" when someone says something to me, even though I actually heard it. For some reason, I'm able to process what they said before they repeat themselves, but it doesn't stop me from this knee-jerk response of "what?"

how old are you? i think everyone does this once in a while. yet my grandma does it pretty much all the time.
