Re: Math questions
[ QUOTE ]
I have some questions regarding winning %.
Question 1
Team A is .600 against .500 team.
Team B is .400 against .500 team.
What is Team A's winning% against Team B?
Question 2
Team A is .550 against average .450 teams.
What is Team A's winning % against .500 teams.
I have been using simple methods for both questions.
Question 1 .600-.400+.500=.700
Question 2 .550+.450-.500=.500
However I have been feeling it is not accurate.
Is there any better methods for these question?
Thanks.

60%/40% = 1.5
40%/60% = 0.66667 (2/3)
1.5/0.66667 = 2.25
2.25/3.25 = 69.2%
Imagine you have 60 red balls and 40 white balls. You put them all in a tub and randomly select 1. Whatever color is selected is the winning color. Red will win 60% of the time.
Take those 40 white balls out and put them into a tub with 26.66667 blue balls (yes, blue balls). Just pretend there is such a thing as 2/3 of a ball, instead of making me talk about millions of balls. The white balls will win 60% of the time now.
Take those 26.6667 blue balls out and put them into the tub with the 60 red balls. Red will win 69.2% of the time.
