Yes, the Celtics were lucky that Kevin Garnett specifically was available, but that's missing the point. Every so often a superstar is available, and it's all about putting yourself in the best position to grab him when he's on the market. That's what Ainge did.
Wasting a mid-lottery pick on Telfair was a disaster, but even so, Ainge's draft record is way above average. It's even better when you consider that he got a lot of those draft picks in the first place by making creative trades.
