This is ripping me apart on veteran. No matter what I try, I can't keep up and someone will sneak up and waste me, or a dog will catch me, or five grenades will land in my lap. Argh!!!

When the guys start to pour in too fast for you to snipe lay down in the ditch behind the little hill the captain is on. You will have the most cover there. You won't be able to see anything but grass but use your autoaim to pick off anyone who comes near. You don't have to kill everyone you just have to stay alive long enough till the chopper gets there at which point pick up the captain and make a dash for it.

Actually, my roommates, who've never played till yesterday, figured out a pretty foolproof way to do this. The hardest part for me was the final wave where the helicopters start dropping guys because I couldn't keep up and guys would eventually come from all sides and kill me. Rest in white:

So as soon as you hear that the enemy helicopters are coming, you make a dash for the area opposite the ferris wheel where the guys come from on foot each wave (it's best to have some sort of assault rifle, not just two sniper rifles). Run all the way to the far wall and tuck yourself up against the corner. You should now be almost exactly opposite MacMillan. He will take out a lot of the guys and all you have to do is pick off the people that shoot at you. When your helicopter comes, pick off the last few people that come through the alley to the left (usually toss a flashbang over the fence) and make a dash for MacMillan, following the rightmost side of the level, away from the bulk of the enemy. Pick up MacMillan and run to the chopper. Too easy.
