Default Re: 3-betting Light at commerce ONLY

example of this light 3 betting back-firing last night when I ended up being more confused than my opponent. HG 20-40 game.

Villian is fairly passive middle aged guy who knows a little bit of strategy... plays OK post flop... but finds a way to never leave the casino with money. Personally I think he plays his made hands too passively. We have a lot of history... he likes me but always seems genuinely confused when I leave the casino with money. He's already made a comment about me being full of piss and vinegar once tonight :-)

Table is nine handed... but it's late in the night and we are playing with 3 props. For all intense purposes the props at HG's are tighter than a dolphins anus and are just waiting for live players to take their seats. One guy is sitting out.

I pretty much consider this a 5 handed game at this point... if one of the props wakes up and 3 or 4 bets me preflop... I've already decided I'm calling the one bet then dumping the flop unless I hit BIG.

Villian open raises in mid position... I"m next to act and 3 bet with K-J (suits not a factor in this hand).

Fold around to Villian who calls.

Flop: Q J 2

Check, I bet, call. I can tell he doesn't love his hand... but based on our history... I know he has just decided to go into call-down mode. We ARE going to show-down.

Here's where I get confused. Because I showed strength by being the pre-flop 3-bettor... Villian could have anything from K Q to K-10 to 10-J to A-J to 99... I know he automatically (still) assumes I have a monster everytime I 3-bet.

If I continue to bet (turn and river) and get called down by a winner I feel like an idiot... If I VB him and he turns over 10-J... I feel like a champ.

Anyways... Turn was a 2 (rainbow)

Villian checks, I bet, He calls.

River was an 7...

check, I check behind.
