Yeah the 'keeping the tourist happy' argument is kind of self-defeating. If he's never going to play with the guy again, that argues more for maxing the EV of the current hand.

Regarding the argument that the card-showing was more likely to save Mike lots of money than cost him. The Swede was the one who made the non-poker move. Imo when you do something non-standard, even with good intentions, you have to assume all the risk. You can't impose any of the risk on someone else, even if it's net +EV for them, because it's not their choice.

The Swede chose to save Mike lots of money all of those times that Mike had a great but lesser hand, but it's simply not fair to ask Mike to assume the risk on the one time he has the better hand, because it wasn't Mike's choice.
