i don't know if generosity is his motivation. a lot of live players pull this [censored] because they are variance-averse and have decided that they don't want to be greedy and are happy to win $X than possibly lose a pot of $X * 2, or whatever.

wow, you've never really played poker in a casino, have you?

dumbest post ever. ever ever.

happens ALL the time, and is done by good players and bad players alike.

some people are so anti-variance they'd rather book a $1000 win 100% of the time as opposed to a $1700 win 70% of the time. especially players taking shots, players on limited bankrolls, players who are prone to tilt, players who are friendly with one another, whatever.

edit: i wonder what the response to this thread would be if OP had KK and was pondering a call drawing dead in the same spot with the same guy before this hand comes up- b/c the opponent in this hand has no idea OP has the nuts, guarantee he thinks he has the best hand w/o a doubt, and if you assign mike a range of hands here that he's likely to play this way I guarantee you his opponents actions are saving mike a ton of money over the long run. it just so happens he did it when it was nut vs. second nut. [censored], the pots already big.

my line here is to make sure everything is jovial and friendly, turn my hand faceup, drag the pot, and keep things cool. it's likely the guy is a losing player, and you dont want this kind of losing player to leave the game or feel like his generosity was [censored] on and taken advantage of and subsequently not come back. mike is a reg i believe, and developing a rapport with certain touristy type players is worth much more over the long run than breaking them for an extra grand or two in one hand.

[censored], do you guys not have any idea how to act professional at the table? oh right, you all play online. lol, srsly, think about it.

whatever the cliche is, shear a sheep a million times, skin him once.
