For tournaments, read Harrington Vol 1 and 2. Also, read Poker Tournament Formula for the information on the speed of different tournaments and their skill level, and also how to steal a few more chips by leveraging position and a big stack more.

For limit, reading SSHE first is wrong. First you should read Internet Texas Holdem for a basic strategy that works better against all levels of competition for full ring games. After that, and as you're better able to size up the competition and how loose and skilled they are, if you are playing in real loose games (such as live) then read SSHE - it's a great book but only if you pay attention to the table conditions it addresses.

For shorthanded limit, there is Winning in Tough Holdem Games, and the latest shorthanded book that Tannenbaum consulted on.
