I think it worked fine after using the postgresql equivalent of compacting (Vacuum/Analyze). Im fairly sure my problem was just because the wireless stopped working on the 2nd computer and so pa hud couldn't access it.
It would probably be a reasonable solution (postgresql) if a wired network is used, if only between the 2 computers.
