probaly a set or a lower overpair

I concur. And I think you made the right move.

If we take the 8/4 at face value then his range out of the SB is quite narrow. He's probably not calling OOP pre-flop with a suited connector. Does he have the balls to make this play with AK? Probably not. Therefore, "probaly a set or a lower overpair" is on the money.

Facing the check-raise I think calling is your worst option; if you call then the pot will be $78 with $58 left behind and there are a lot of scary turn cards (for both you and villain).

I don't like folding here either. Sure he could have a set, but if he's paying attention he can see that you raise pre-flop fairly light and have a wide range from the CO. He can easily make this play with 88, TT, JJ (maybe even 55 or QQ) and he'll probably call your push with these hands because your range includes enough hands that he's ahead of (e.g., 56, 78, 89, 9T) to give you the equity to call.

In short, you made the right play. I'm sorry he showed you a set.
