Was the pot really that big ? Anyway I think that I like your flop raise.
1. You improve your winning chances if you have the best hand and your raise causes MP1 to fold.
2. You learn from SB's 3-bet that you probably need to improve to win, and can play the rest of the hand accordingly.
I suppose that the alternative would have been to call down UI from SB's flop bet. However, you were not heads up, and that line would have been more expensive if you were behind.
