Not to mention it's flat out wrong, as the latest NPD numbers put HD-DVD ahead in hardware sales, and this was before the recent price cut(s).

Strange.

It is ironic that you point out the first article is biased, and then your article link includes the VP of marketing for Toshiba. Not only that, the data excludes the PS3 because it is not a dedicated piece of hardware.

Do they really think no one who is buying the PS3 for gaming is also using its blu-ray player? Or is it plausible to deny that some people are getting the PS3 because it is almost stupid not to while it is cheaper than a standalone blu-ray player?

NPD is an extremely objective source. The point of the article was verification of NPD numbers. Feel free to find other sources. I can promise you that he was not lying about an easily verificable source. And yes it does exclude PS3. If you include it, it becomes impossible to get any real measurement since you have to basically come up with some magic % of people that bought it more for a blu-ray player than as a gaming system. Toshiba will also be coming out with a line of mid-range laptops that will include HD-DVD drives. These will not be included for the same reasons.

obviously the ps3 movie attach rates are at least 20 percent which means almost a million more people have blu-ray viewing capabilities than hd-dud. if i saw numbers like that id be willing to give away a hddud player for free if u bought 5 movies just to get players out there..who cares how much money i lose in the short term. shoot id also give a main studio 150 million so theyd just sell my type of software....oh snap wait a sec that already happened
