Hand 1 - Call. I thought about the push, but I think it is likely that one or both of the first two callers has a small pair. At this point, you can see the flop and make a play if you pair your hole cards, otherwise I let this one go.
Hand 2 - Fold. You mention he's a generally tight player, and while the blinds are catching up, I don't think he's desperate yet. I don't think he's making this move with 88 or less, which means you are very likely up against a higher pair or two overcards. This is the classic "slight favorite or huge dog" scenario, and I don't think it justifies a call. Wait for a better spot.
