Default Re: Odds of making a set on the flop with pocket pair

Odds are 7.33:1. Usually people just round it to 7.5:1.

Keep in mind that the odds people quote for making a hand doesn't always mean that is the odds of you winning. A great example is a small pocket pair. In NL you prefer your opponent(s) to have at least 10x the amount that you must call preflop left in their stack and IMO it is best if you have some history on the player to know that they are capable of paying you off. The reason for this additional overlay is to compensate for the times you make your set and lose and / or the times you don't get paid off. You'll hit your set 1 time in 8 so you're going to do a lot of folding on the flop. And when you do hit and get beat most likely you'll lose big, like your whole stack. So when you hit and win you want to be a big score.

Oh, I play full ring and I almost always raise TT.

Good Luck
