I didn't read the thread, but I see no basis for banning EricW. I don't see anything wrong at all with his posts, and in fact think he is being held to a double standard just because a few moderators find him obnoxious. While he's certainly not everyone's cup of tea, the toleration of much worse from other posters demands leniency in EricW's case as well.

Some people complain that his gimmick is overplayed, but since it seems to keep drawing ire, it seems that it is not. If EricW pisses you off so much, then just ignore him. If the argument that you are a moderator means you can't ignore him gets in the way of that, you should consider quitting as moderator instead of banning EricW. I am constantly disappointed by the moderation of this community, and banning EricW would be just another example of how I think twoplustwo misses the point. Instead of focusing on building a wide based community, people seek to shape these forums in their own image, diversity be damned.

I would like to think that on a forum based on seeking knowledge there would be room for differing viewpoints and various senses of humour. Through my years here I have learned that there is not, and yet I hope that this can change. Don't ban EricW - ban your own bad attitude.
