was watching 25/50, thought of something, dont know if its any good though

lets say you have aces, a short stack (say 40BB to start the hand) raises to 3BB, you repop to 10BB on the button, and the shorty calls. 20BB is in the pot and your opponent only has 30BB left. the flop comes quite dry, maybe paired (like T33), and your opponent checks. is there any merit to just checking behind? since you arent c-betting AK against him since hes so short, and you can represent AK and he may shove the turn on you...
