I think something not considered by most is the difference in the influences of live and on-line play.

Namely, I'm speaking of stats. The best on-line players are very good at knowing and making use of the tendancies of their opponents. They do this primarily through stats.

In a live game, player tendancies are important as well. The difference is, the source of knowing these tendancies lie in observation and recollection. Online, the source of knowing these tendancies is data management.
