Seems like it would work

When the game becomes heads up there is always two blinds and the button is always the small bind. No player will have to pay the Large blind two hands in a row.

Once the game is heads up a player is paying a blind every hand, so paying a SB two hands in a row is not a burden that needs to be prevented.
