Americans, whether or not most will admit it, do have a bit on an inferiority complex with Euros when it comes to things like fashion and culture.
We have a supeority complex when it comes to government and economics. Big socialized government is generally frowned upon here.
It's a mixed bag in regards to work-life balance. I think people in the US (and Japan as they are similar, if not worse than the US) are over-worked, under-vacationed and stressed out and could learn a thing or 2 from the Euros. OTOH, the American approach to work-life balance and productivity does have something to do with our economic success, so one could look at it both ways.
